LOVE YOGA, DO YOGA, GIVE YOGA TO OTHERS

108 yoga salutations. £108 each.

At Edinburgh Community Yoga, we believe in an inclusive world where everyone has access to and is empowered by doing yoga. As a not-for-profit social enterprise all profits from our public classes and corporate programmes go toward Community Outreach Programmes and subsidised public classes. Thanks to you, we’re taking the therapeutic benefits of yoga to communities in Edinburgh and beyond. Together, we ensure access and inclusion, working across the cultural, economic and health barriers that inhibit people from taking part in yoga.

In the last 2 years, COVID-19 and the post pandemic word we find ourselves in has had  a devastating impact on our ability to raise income through our public classes and corporate wellbeing programmes. Grant funding is harder as cost of living rises and the communities we support are really struggling on a number of levels.

This year, in partnership with Meadowlark Yoga and the Edinburgh Yoga Festival, the One-O-Eight challenge is back to raise £5000 so we can continue to run our Outreach Programmes and public classes for the next year.

“Even though I love yoga so much, taking yoga classes that are not specifically trauma focused has always felt like a bit of a risk. My relationship with my body is not simple and I worried that the practice might unexpectedly trigger my trauma symptoms in a setting that wasn't really designed to deal with that. But the beautiful thing is that when my worst fear was realised in tonight's class I was able to draw on all of those weeks of practicing with you and the other women on Thursday nights and all the amazing tools that I have learnt. I can kind of bring my own trauma informed approach to other classes - even zoom classes when I'm 500 miles away from the studio!-

The challenge – are you in?

We want you to join us at Edinburgh Yoga Festival on 3rd September 2022 at Summerhall, Edinburgh to do 108 yoga salutations in person, and raise £108 each! There are 50 tickets avaialble for this event but if we sell out you can still sign up and take part at home so nobody will be left out!

The One-O-Eight challenge is a fun, safe, easy and inclusive way to bring our community together online and raise urgent funds. We’re determined to harness the wonderful community spirit and solidarity that has seen us through the last 2 years and come together to support access and inclusion in yoga.

There are three versions of the salutation including a seated option to suit all abilities. We will have a video demonstration available soon to keep you right!

Working together towards equal access to yoga for those who need it most

Every penny you raise through taking part in the One-O-Eight challenge will pay for yoga programmes that are free at the point of service and run in partnership with the organisations that support them. You are giving people the opportunity to improve their mental and physical health through the practice of yoga and to take part in enriched and supportive group based practices that can reduce social isolation and foster connection. It’s thanks to you, and kind and generous people like you that this work is possible. You are amazing.
